Statins and Myopathy; Paresthesia and Small Nerve Fiber Density; Strokes and Diabetes; Elderly and Optimal Exercise

Statin use has been found in rare cases to cause severe necrotizing myopathy. Paresthesia may be associated with reduced density of small nerve fiber documented by skin biopsy. Strokes are more common in patients with diabetes who have elevated fasting blood sugar levels. Elderly patients may benefit most by exercise that targets motor learning as opposed to muscle strength and flexibility.
